With the NEW LOOK of Restoration! Last month we launched the new look of RCPO by revealing new signage and invite cards! We cleaned up our lobby to help our people and newcomers connect. This month, we're taking that same new look and getting matching T-Shirts. If you're part of a team at Restoration or serve Jesus with us in the community, or you just want a t-shirt we encourage you to get a new shirt. This will help get others connected to Restoration. Primary Passages: 1 Kings 18:1-2; 7-8; 16-45, Psalm 119:37

Launching Discussion: In the sermon, Dave referenced a passage from the Old Testament and the “Showdown at Mt. Carmel.” Was this story new to you or had you heard it before?

Sermon Questions:

1. The first point in the talk was that “knowing information about God and the Bible isn’t the only thing that reveals a person who has saving faith in Jesus.” Has there ever been a time in your life when your knowledge of God DIDN’T shape the way you live for Jesus?

  • If so, can you explain why?
  • How does Jesus’ love for you change that?

2. Have you every thought about the danger of syncretism in our world today? That is, “the blending of Christian beliefs, ethics, attitudes with the practices of the dominant culture.”

  • What are some difficulties we face when trying to live by God’s Word on a daily basis?
  • Has there ever been a time where you lost your focus on Jesus and the line between what God want’s you to do and the world was blurred?
  • If so, please explain.

3. In the last point of Dave’s message, he talked about how a person that genuinely loves Jesus will have an “authentic commitment” to live their life “in sync” with what they know about God and the Bible.

  • Do you believe this statement is true?
  • Why do you think people struggle with living for the fake contenders for our mind and heart? (i.e. career, success, marriage, being perfect, money, possessions, affirmation, value)
  • How does Jesus’ gracious love reconnect the commitment of your heart to Him?

4. What are some things you could be doing to help yourself and others look to Jesus and turn from idols?

5. Since God gives us everything good in Jesus, how does what we “already have” in Him drive you to be who He’s set you apart to be:

  • In your personal relationship and devotion to Him?
  • At Restoration?
  • On His mission in the community?
