PARTICIPANT'S GUIDE FOR COMMUNITY GROUP GATHERINGS
Sermon: Glorifying God with Your Time - Part 1, January 18th, 2015
Series: Busy: Finding Your Way In A Hectic World

Launching Question:

Icebreaker-- Identify some of the ways our culture uses the word "glory" today.

Primary Passages:

Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved human glory more than the glory of God. John 12:42-43

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17

Sermon Questions:

1. In the sermon, Pastor Anthony said, "to live for the glory of something in your life is to live as if it is weighty or significant".

  • What are some of the things you see people glorifying today?
  • What are some of the things you have chosen to glorify in the past, or even today?

2. Do you agree that there can be a legitimate struggle with living for the Glory of God in your life? If so, what do you think are the more common things that distract the Christian from living for God's glory? If not, why not?

3. How can putting God's Kingdom first in your life help to set clear boundaries for everything else in your life? What does it look like for a person to put God's Kingdom first in their life? In your own life?

4. Are you the type of person whose default response when asked to do something is " yes, or no"? How does the statement, "God calls us to live for His Glory in what we choose to do, or not do" affect your answer?

5. Talk about the main differences in this statement when it comes to your time, "our chief existence in life is not trying to get to the place where we include God in our time, rather, it's getting to the place where we learn to accept the invitation to be included in God's time".

  • Give some examples of what you think a life looks like in each statement.
  • Share with the group which side of the fence you feel your life is on right now.
  • If you come to the conclusion you need to make some changes-talk about what they are and how you can support each other in them.
